How to redact a PDF and check the result
A successful redaction is a property of the saved file, not of the rectangle shown in an editor. Begin by deciding what must be removed and how you will verify the result.
1. Identify the content and the page type
Keep an original in a restricted folder. List the fields that must disappear from the release copy. Try selecting text in several pages: a document can combine native text, scanned pages and pictures containing text. Check repeated headers, footers and tables as well as the first occurrence.
2. Choose a removal workflow
In CloakDoc, open the Studio’s batch workflow, add a small sample and select the supported identifier rules. Pro and Enterprise can add a custom regular expression for predictable business references. This is pattern-based detection; names and narrative information need separate review.
The batch export covers detected regions in rendered pixels and creates a new page-image PDF. CloakDoc’s manual viewer instead adds overlays to existing pages. Do not use that manual export as proof of permanent removal.
3. Export a distinct copy
Wait for successful completion and download the processed file. Keep failures out of the release folder. Choose a filename that does not itself reveal the information you intended to remove. Batch image reconstruction loses source searchability and interactive elements.
4. Reopen and inspect
Use a separate PDF reader. Search for known identifiers, attempt text selection, and inspect every page at a readable zoom. Check document properties and attachments. Search alone cannot find text embedded in an image, so visible inspection remains necessary.
5. Release only the reviewed file
Compare the result with your removal list and record unresolved details. Send the checked copy, not the source or manual overlay version. Clear local batch storage when finished and handle retained originals and backups separately.
